9. Indy's Quest For Fortune And Glory
Indiana Jones is an archaeologist. Archaeology is the study of past which appears to consists of digging up a bunch of old stuff, looking at it for a while, and making wild assumptions about the people or culture responsible for creating it. Archaeology relies on having an intimate knowledge of a variety of disciplines like history, physics, linguistics and every other university course you weren't smart enough to take. Because archaeology employs a literal orgy of complex scientific practices, the folks who chose to pursue it for the rest of their lives usually have a hard on for dried up musty tombs and such. While at one point in his life Jones seemed to be driven by a generic moral code (i.e. it belongs in a museum!), at some point he changed his tune The end goal of archaeology should be the sweet nectar of knowledge but, for Indiana Jones, it's fortune and glory. Case in point, the opening of Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom. Indy meets notorious Chinese gangster Lao Che at Club Obi Wan and proceeds to trade a priceless historical artifact, the ashes of Nurachi, the first emperor of the Manchu Dynasty, for a huge diamond.
