9 Horror Movies That Couldn't Live Up To Their Awesome Opening

1. Ghost Ship

And of course, horror fans, it could be no other than Ghost Ship in the top spot. The very dictionary definition of a film that can't live up to its brilliant opening, Ghost Ship offers up some wonderful B-Movie schlockiness in its opening act that is rarely seen again in the following hour and a half. So rarely does a film set such a ridiculous tone that it's quite sad to watch it taper off into disappointment as it becomes apparent that's our lot. But oh, what a lot it is.

Lulling audiences in with a false sense of security, the movie opens with a big, glamorous cruise ship party that sees crew and passengers having a lovely dance as they glide through the ocean. The lounge singer is busting out some sweet tunes, the seafarers are looking jovial as ever, and the captain himself brings over a little girl to dance with because we're in certified wholesome territory, and the pink cursive title cards only prove it further.

But then - disaster strikes. An errant hand releases a wire cord that bisects the entire top deck of people, including aforementioned certifiably wholesome captain, and only the little girl remains to scream bloody murder at seeing... well, a whole load of bloody murder.

Many have tried, but none do it better. It's just a shame the rest of the film is a load of sh*t.
