9 Iconic Cult Film Distributors

5. Blue Underground

Blue Underground Logo The masters of releasing THE definitive versions of films and all their extras, Blue Underground started life as shell company to oversee the making of documentaries at William Lustig's time at Anchor Bay. It became a company in its own right in 2002. Blue Underground is dedicated to releasing cult films - especially horror films. They lean strongly towards Euro Horror - in particular, Italian horror. Their films often take a long time to come to DVD because Blue Underground are dedicated to taking their films from vault sources and they also go to great lengths to supply the viewer with commentators and extra features. They pride themselves on the fact that their DVDs are all uncut versions of the films they are distributing. Notable Blue Underground releases include: 99 Women, A Blade in the Dark, City of the Living Dead, Daughters of Darkness, Deep Red, Don't Torture a Duckling, Emanuelle in America, God Told Me To, Maniac, Mondo Cane, Salon Kitty, The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
