9 Improvements Needed For A Successful Assassin's Creed Sequel

In the lead up to the release of Assassin's Creed, hope was high that this may be the first movie adaptation of a popular video game that would succeed despite the flops gone before it.

This hope increased hugely when a great cast of actors, led by Michael Fassbender, were announced for the project and promising trailers followed. They showed stunning visuals of 15th Century Spain, heart-pounding action scenes and an element of mystery surrounding the modern day events.

Unfortunately, no curse was broken. Assassin's Creed failed to hit the mark and has been heavily derided critically. Despite this, the franchise's planned sequels still appear to be going ahead and the movie industry seems undeterred as many other video game adaptations are scheduled for 2017 (Tomb Raider, Minecraft and Sonic the Hedgehog).

However, if the planned Assassin's Creed sequels do go ahead then there is much room for improvement.

The Problem

The Assassin's Creed movie failed to take advantage of some of the better elements from the video game series, particularly in terms of how the game's present the past. The player spends the vast majority of their time exploring a vibrant world with interesting characters.

Unfortunately, the film chose to focus on less interesting elements in the modern day, pretty much completely fudging the appeal of the franchise in the first place.

The Solution

Better utilising the past in the sequel by expanding the world around Aguilar and developing an interesting plot that embraces the surroundings and its people of that time period will be a significant improvement on the soulless world we were given this time out.

Furthermore, using the series to focus on different periods of time rather than the modern day will prevent the films from getting stale. Providing a varied setting and new characters to introduce in each film.
