9 Incredible Pieces Of Concept Art From Cancelled Superhero Films

1. Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman

When Joss Whedon took control of the post-production process for Justice League, it wasn't his first attempt to shape a DC Comics movie. Back in 2006, he was hard at work on the script for a very different Wonder Woman film to the one which debuted to critical acclaim last year.

Whedon's Wonder Woman bore some similarities to the DCEU hit. The story begins when Steve Trevor crash lands on Themyscira and he's very much the reason Diana leaves the island, but this is present day.

Strife, Ares's nephew, is the movie's big bad, and the bulk of the action takes place in the fictitious American city of Gateway. Much of the story revolves around Diana connecting with the world of men and learning what it means to be a hero.

Concept art from the project suggests Wonder Woman would be garbed in a similar getup to the one she wore during DC's New 52 era: colourful, modern hero attire.

The screenplay was poorly received by fans when it surfaced online, but it's important to note that it would have undergone numerous redrafts if creative differences hadn't forced Whedon off the project. And let's not forget, the world would have gotten a female-fronted superhero movie many years earlier if this had been picked up.
