1. Nonsensical Logic
And then there's the wealth of absurdity that Nolan has asked us to buy into throughout his filmography, odd breaks in logic that somewhat pass muster because we're caught up in the heft of the narrative and the enticing visuals of Nolan's production. The Dark Knight Rises is especially full of them - Bruce having his broken back repaired by a rope and being punched repeatedly in the spine, restoring lost cartilage and being as good as new (if not better), all of Gotham's police force living underground for months and not looking like complete crap etc - and yet, Nolan manages to just about get away with it where countless other directors would be heavily ridiculed. Nolan is fortunate that the overall arcs of his stories are so smooth; that is why we're able to let him get away with so much, because he's that most frustrating of talents, extremely intelligent and skilled, but sorely in need of someone to tell him when something is stupid.
