9 Insane Movie Scenes That Are Totally Out Of Place

7. The Tunnel - Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8X48RiKQmFQ When you compare the '70s Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory with the latest incarnation (courtesy of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp), you really begin to appreciate how much you don't like Tim Burton. Well, I'm not exactly sure where I was going with that, but I think I was going to say that the original adaptation is a good one - fun, enthralling, a joy for all the family to behold. Well, mostly. You've tried to push it out of your brain, I'm sure, but I think we need to discuss it, because there's something seriously wrong going on: what the hell is that freakin' tunnel scene about? You remember it, right? The movie is doing fine and the tone has been set nicely and you're having a really great time. And then the director unleashes a trippy boat ride sequence on you without the least bit of foreshadowing. Seriously. Everybody in the movie is forced to travel through a mind-bending, drug-like dream tunnel for no reason. Is that a chicken getting its head cut off? A centipede crawling over a man's face? Why is Mr. Wonka acting like a madman? Once it's over and you've changed your underwear, the movie returns to normal and the matter of "Hellboat" is never brought up or talked about ever again. It just happened, and now you have to deal with that. For the rest of your life.
