6. Kick-Ass 2
Release Date: June 28, 2013 The first Kick-Ass, directed by Matthew Vaughn, was an irreverent take on the superhero genre, in which ordinary highschooler Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) decided to become a superhero and found himself caught up with drug dealers and other costumed crimefighters Damon Macready/Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and and his daughter Mindy/Hit-Girl (Chole Grace Mortez). The sequel will involve Dave joining forces with ordinary citizens who have taken to fighting crime, including the big new addition to the film, Jim Carrey as a character called Colonel Stars. He also has to confront Chris D'Amico/ Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), the son of the villain from the first film. Vaughn is not returning for this film, handing directing duties over to Jeff Wadlow, who's also wrote the screenplay, based on Mark Millar's series. It remains to be seen whether Wadlow can deliver the same blend of dark humour and cartoonish yet brutal violence that made the first film bizarrely entertaining- but with Wadlow having writing duties as well, it shows that Wadlow is heavily involved in the creative process, giving one hope he'll make a sequel that's as bold as the first.
