9 Irresistible Upcoming Comic Book Movies

9. Ninja Turtles

Release Date: May 16, 2014 This Michael Bay produced reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the cause of controversy when Bay announced that this time the turtles would be from outer space - but then the idea of Bay producing a film based on another beloved childhood property was already controversial from the moment his involvement was known. Nevertheless, despite having an animated film released back in 2007, the ninja turtles deserve a live action reboot. Reportedly, the martial arts films Fist of Legend and The Raid: Redemption are influences on this film, which suggests the action in this film will try to replicate actual martial arts films. A cast is not yet in place but Jessica Biel has said she's interested in playing the turtles' friend April O'Neil. The live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies from the 90s were a big part of my generation's childhood and it'll be interesting what tone the film will take- will it be dark like the first film or lighter hearted like the sequels? The film, directed by Wrath of the Titans' Jonathan Liebsman, was slated for a Christmas 2013 release but has been pushed back to May of 2014. Time will tell whether the film keeps its alien origins angle or if it'll go the more traditional route, but either way, there's a lot of pressure for this film to please fans, especially with someone as controversial as Bay involved.
