9 Lame Opening Scenes In Otherwise Great Movies

8. Ghostbusters

Mission Impossible Fallout Opening
Columbia Pictures

Ghostbusters is a classic and there's a good chance that the only people who could possibly hate it are... ghosts? Or people who checked out after the very first scene.

Because the first scene is bonkers. It's a completely straight up, played for spooks, horror scene in the middle of our good good goof em up adventure with Dan Aykroyd and his pals. Right at the beginning, as if to whet your appetite, there's a spooky underground library, a woman alone, and a creature screaming at her. It could be a scene out of IT (not just because the new remake has this exact scene).

Not only is it an odd way to begin a comedy flick, but the very next scene is Bill Murray sexually harassing a woman and torturing a boy. The tonal shift is as extreme as that first scene is terrible.

Worse, this scene doesn't really get followed up on? Sure, the gang goes to check out the library and promptly runs out, the ghost forgotten, along with this scene's point.
