1. Mel Gibson Becomes A Star Because Of A Bar Fight
It's somewhat apt that the very demon that has pretty much brought Mel Gibson's career to a standstill - the devil drink - is the one that brought him to the dance in the first place. Gibson was a jobbing actor of sorts, mainly on the stage, and certainly didn't have any aspirations to the big screen. An actor buddy of Gibson's asked him if he could give him a lift to Mad Max auditions the next day, and after agreeing, Gibson went out on the sauce, and ended up getting into a bar brawl, severely injuring his face. Director George Miller, however, took notice of him at the audition, and told him to come back when his face was sorted out to try out for the part of Max. The rest, of course, is history; hopefully Mel ensured to treat that friend
very well once his career took off. Sucks for the assailant, though; he essentially beat Mel into a life of luxury. Which accidental slice of cinematic glory is your favourite? Let us know in the comments below.
