Dark Reign marks a dramatic power shift in the Marvel Universe, with Spider-Man's nemesis Norman Osborn and his Dark Avengers stepping up as its new protectors.

The most important piece of legwork that would be needed for this to happen is a future Spider-Man sequel establishing Osborn in the MCU, which is a small ask.

With this box ticked, cinemagoers could be introduced to a different side of the villain beyond his Green Goblin alter ego in a Dark Reign adaptation, and this could lead into the climactic Siege storyline which pits the Avengers against their dark counterparts.

This era of Marvel Comics publication history could be fertile ground for its film arm once all of the pieces are in place. If the events of Thor: Ragnarok end up shifting Asgard to the US midwest we'll be halfway there already.
