9 Movie Franchises That Awkwardly Continued When Their Stars Bailed

5. Predator 2 (1990)

Predator 2 When the original muscular hero Arnold Schwarzenegger decided that he'd prefer to pursue projects other than a shoe-horned sequel to the smash hit that was Predator, the studios decided that they might just go on without him anyway, and cast Danny Glover in the lead role instead. Don't get me wrong: I'm a big fan of Danny Glover, and I think he's a solid actor, but I've never really seen him as a leading man. He works better in a duo, preferably one that includes Mel Gibson. The results weren't great, though you can give Predator 2 points for at least trying to do something different - that is, the sequel transposes the action from its iconic jungle setting to the urban jungle that is Los Angeles. Glover is okay in the lead, but the movie mainly just struggles from feeling like any other violent action movie. Whereas the original had Arnie and a great director at the helm in John McTiernan, this had... Gary Busey?
