9 Movie Franchises That Said F**k You To The Fans

9. Prometheus

Prometheus If you ever needed a case for filmmakers being a little more tight lipped in this Twitter age, Ridley Scott€™s Prometheus should be Exhibit A. The idea of an Alien prequel had been around for a long time, but once Scott joined the project in 2009, things began moving fast. One movie became two and from interview to interview the picture changed from directly leading to Alien to just sharing some DNA and back again. The film arrived last year to good reviews, but distaste from fans. Even a year after the fact it€™s still unclear what exactly the aim of the film was. There€™s enough there to link Prometheus to Alien (planet names, Engineers, robots with milk blood), but so much more to distance it (advanced tech, changes in chronology and biology). The big issue here isn't only that Promethus is not really a worthy lead in to Alien. It€™s that for years Scott was promising fan€™s something and knowingly failed to deliver it. Prometheus is far from a bad film, but it€™s no surprise fans left with a bad taste in their mouths. Maybe the now in pre-production sequel will tie up the loose ends. Although don€™t hold your breath.
