9 Movie Scenes That Completely Change Their Film

7. The Ending - La La Land

La La Land isn't your average romance, or musical, or even movie, since it mashes all three together in a wholly new and innovative way. Damien Chazelle's story of two people colliding, falling in love, and attempting to make a life together whilst keeping their passions alive feels like its destined to work out perfectly. And I mean, what other romantic musical movie wouldn't?

That Chazelle actually gives us the perfect ending we've desperately come to hope for feels only fair, since seeing Sebastian and Mia finally end up happy with both each other and their careers feels like the only fair resolution to their two hours of struggle. But then - because of course there's a but - it's all ripped away from us when proven to just be a dream sequence. One fleeting, knowing glance between them is all we get to cap off their love story, and then it's all over.

Knowing that they're destined for failure takes La La Land from feel-good flick to emotional gut punch, and it's one heartbreaking transition shot that sees Sebastian replaced with Mia's new husband as she watches him perform that delivers the fatal blow. They've accepted they'll never be together in this one knowing nod.

It's not fair. ITS NOT FAIR.
