9 Movie Sequels That Just Got Cancelled

1. Happy Death Day 3

Since Blumhouse movies generally cost very little to produce (at least, by Hollywood standards), they don't have to be huge box-office monsters in order to turn a profit.

The original Happy Death Day flick was able to rustle up $125 million on a meagre $5 million budget, an incredible return-on-investment that resulted in a sequel being greenlit for an early 2019 release.

Unfortunately, Happy Death Day 2U wasn't able to recapture the first movie's box-office magic. While it wasn't a failure by any means - $64 million on a $9 million budget is nothing to sneeze at - it didn't do the kind of numbers that Blumhouse had hoped for, putting the prospect of a third film in doubt.

And sure enough, series director Christopher Landon has confirmed that Happy Death Day 3 is not being made. Taking to Twitter over the summer, the filmmaker definitively stated that the film isn't in development, while cheekily calling out Netflix to swoop in and save the day:

Happy Death Day 2U ended on a great cliffhanger so it's a shame we'll never get to see the franchise continue, but who knows, maybe Netflix will one day heed Landon's call.
