9 Movie Villains Who Are Really The Victims
3. King Kong (Representing Giant Monsters Everywhere)
Save from the Godzilla film franchise that largely turned into a Godzilla vs all star battle royale, the movie monster has always been a victim. The creature that, of course, humanity must defeat has never totally been evil. They are frequently made by man himself, whether that be directly (Adam) or indirectly (Godzilla or The Host). Atop of the list is King Kong, the creature man actively sought out, captured and put on show.
The crew of the Venture set sail to film a never before seen motion picture, capturing life long lost to time on the mysterious Skull Island. As we all know, while the crew are in search of the mysterious Kong, the young actress, Ann Darrow, is captured and the beast falls in love with her. The rest of the film sees the Ventures crew going to rescue Ann from Kong before capturing him and selling him to the public as the eighth wonder of the world. From Kongs perspective, though, all he does it fall in love with someone, defend her from the monsters of Skull Island before she is snatched away and he himself is put in chains. When he breaks free, the aeroplanes kill him (despite what some iconic quotes may say). What was stopping the crew of the Venture bringing back something just as impressive but a little less threatening? Its not like the body of a dead Stegosaurus or Tyrannosaurus wouldnt go down well in the scientific community.
Bringing up the rear just ever so slightly on Kong in terms of monsters as victims is the Cloverfield monster, who causes total destruction but only because it is a scared child trying to look for its mother. And, of course, when a giant alien easily capable of levelling a skyscraper starts to look for its mother in New York, the military arent going to treat things lightly.
