9 Movies That Everyone Has Been Tricked Into Believing They Love
8. The Cool Trick - Drive
Drive might be the best movie on this list. I'm not going to argue that it's a bad movie, exactly - just one that has received way too much accolade for what it essentially is: a good movie. But talk to anybody on the street about Drive and they might have you believe this is the cinematic equivalent of the Second Coming Of Christ.
Aside from its impressive aesthetics and a killer soundtrack, though, Drive lacks a satisfying narrative flow or characters that are worth your time. So how have we been tricked, you wonder? It all comes down to the cool factor, people. Drive is often positioned as being one of the "coolest" movies ever made - how could it not be, right? Fake '80s feel, Ryan Gosling smouldering and barely saying a word... and then there's the car chases, the ultra-violence... that's a recipe for awesomeness right there.
Problem is, none of these stuff comes together to create anything lasting or worthwhile. It's an empty movie. That's the point, you say? Well, okay, but that doesn't change anything. Fact is: people like to say they think Drive's cool. And it is. But people seem to be more into the "idea" of Drive than the movie itself, and it's important to differentiate the two.
