9 Movies That Were Better Remakes Than Official Remakes

6. The Spell Is A Better Carrie Remake Than Carrie (2013)

De Palma’s Carrie actually inspired a slew of copycat horrors in the late 1970s (somewhat inevitably, given its success). Usually, they’d feature bullies teenagers with familial tension and some sort of revenge generally speaking, but none were quite as overt as The Spell.

There’s also a good chance you haven’t seen it, since it was made-for-TV, even though it was pretty much the first Carrie rip-off.

It riffs pretty heavily on Brady Bunch sisterly tension with young lead Susan Myers bullied and in the shadow of her well-liked sister. And of course we get the telekinetic revenge at the end too. It’s a far, far better film than the dull and needless 2013 remake of Carrie, that’s for sure. That film tried too little that was new and failed pretty spectacularly to justify its own existence, despite a good cast.
