9 Movies You Didn't Realise Stole Their Endings

2. Toy Story 3 Stole... The Moral From Toy Story 2

The Ending: Toy Story 3 rounded off the Toy Story Trilogy, showing what happens to the gang when Andy finally got too old for them. After a pretty deadly run of misadventures the gang accept their fate as attic residents before Woody tricks their owner into giving them away to young girl Bonnie.

It's an emotional farewell to the characters as they accept their new life. The ultimate moral seems to be about the importance of friendship - life goes on, but as long as Woody and Buzz are together everything will be OK.

Where You Saw It First: Toy Story 3 is essentially the feature length version of Jessie's song from Toy Story 2. A heartbreaking sequence where we learn about the cowboy doll being discarded and thrown away by her owner, it wakens Woody up to the impermanence of his existence.

The resolution to this character arc is the realisation that with buddy Buzz Lightyear with him he'll always be happy. It's achieved through contrivance, but the threequel's ending reaches the same conclusion, with the ending artificially extending the gang's fate; they've once again put off the inevitable. As it's already been covered, it just feels a little unnecessary.

A happy ending also means that there's infinite chance to make countless more Toy Story spin-off shorts; their adventures are still continuing in pre-movie outings and made-for-TV specials.
