5. Hannibal (2001) - Brains! Brains!
We all know that Lecter is a sick f**k and that lots of unwholesome activities follow him wherever he goes, but even my disgust tolerance levels were off the meter at the climax of Hannibal. A lot of crazy stuff happens in Hannibal, but the scene that takes the biscuit happens at the end. Hannibal holes up in government official Ray Krendler's secluded house to evade his capture. He takes Clarice Starling with him. She wakes up in a black velvet dress, groggy from morphine to find an elaborate dinner has been laid out downstairs. Krendler is sitting at the top of the table in a wheelchair. Lecter removes the top of his skull in front of a horrified Clarice, cuts out a part of Krendler's prefrontal cortex, fries it and feeds it to Krendler. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbOJLAtrYWc There are a lot of things in the world that we don't need to see, and some of them exist outside of rotten.com. Someone being spoon-fed their own sautéed brains is a sight that I hope I will never see again. It is a fiendishly clever way to have ended the film but it was disgusting and very provocative. 10/10 for the ick factor.
