9 Predictions By Sci-Fi Movies That Eerily Came True

8. Tablet Computers (2001: A Space Odyssey)

When Apple took Samsung to court claiming the firm's Galaxy Tablet was a ripoff of the iPad, its rival was quick to point out that Stanley Kubrick's visionary masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey came up with the design decades earlier.

There's a scene in the 1968 classic in which a pair of astronauts can be seen using tablet computers while eating breakfast. The iPad, of course, debuted in 2010, just nine years on from when A Space Odyssey is set.

The tablets depicted in the film are almost identical to the first-generation of consumer slates which hit the market almost a decade ago, although the row of physical buttons on the bottom of these devices makes them look somewhat dated.

Luckily, 2001's prediction about killer artificial intelligence that rises up against its human creators is yet to become a reality.
