9 Reasons 2016 Will Kill The Comic Book Movie Boom

9. Fans Are Getting Too Much Of What They Want

2016 has a dream lineup for most diehard comic book fans. Aside from the potential debacle of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (which is ideal only in its title promise of two titans of the superhero genre battling it out), there is no shortage of premises for comic fans to geek out about. Deadpool gets the treatment he deserves; Gambit gets a solo showcase. (Ditto Dr. Strange); Iron Man and Captain America finally get their civil war on. Also... SUICIDE SQUAD! It's basically Christmas all year long. ...And yet, you know what they say about too much of a good thing, don't you? This upcoming year truly looks like one of the best slates of comic book adaptations we've seen yet. It seems like the millions of internet commenters demanding more iconic characters and storylines be brought to life via the magic of Hollywood have actually gotten their wishes. And that's great. You know what's less great? The slate of comic book movies set up for 2017. Another Wolverine movie.; another Thor movie; more Spider-Man and Fantastic 4 movies that almost no one wants anymore. Justice League will probably get some fanfare, and Wonder Woman will be highly anticipated right until the trailer comes out and proves that Warner Bros. is great at ruining anything that isn't Batman related. Other than that, it's going to be a year of coasting for comic book films.
