9 Reasons 2016 Will Kill The Comic Book Movie Boom

2. Every Genre Has Its Cycle

The 30s and 40s were all about monster movies. The 70s owned the disaster genre. The 80s were splattered with teen comedies and sci-fi adventures. The 90s really brought it with hard-body action flicks. And then came the superhero movies. Really, once Blade stuck the landing at the box office, comic book movies were off to the races. They haven't let up all that much since, though we can certainly call the last 5 or 6 years the biggest boom in the genre. Is it possible that comic book adaptations buck the trend of genre cycles? Are they simply too big and too interesting, their characters and storylines too plentiful to keep out of the spotlight in the foreseeable future? Maybe. But a lot of things would have to go right in order for that to happen. And there's that "fatigue" word again.
