9 Reasons The Visit Is M Night Shyamalan's Comeback

1. The Twist Is Simple But Effective

No spoilers here, but yes, there's a twist in Shyamalan's movie, and it's his best one in a long time. It's a running joke that the filmmaker is obsessed with outlandish plot twists, and he appears to have taken that criticism to heart, because while he could've just opted to not have a twist in the film (which would be a twist in of itself), he instead decided to deliver one that's more efficient than shocking. Few are going to be gob-smacked by the revelation in The Visit's third act, but it sidesteps the finale that most audiences were probably expecting and totally works for the purposes of the story. It's simple and to the point: there's nothing particularly convoluted about it, and it does a fine job keeping the audience compelled all the way to the finish line. Hopefully Shyamalan can see the movie's reception and realise that not every movie he makes needs to try so hard to surprise the audience, especially when it defies logic. Have you seen The Visit yet? What did you think? Shout it out in the comments!
