5. It Brought Eastern Culture To The West

How many adventure pictures dealing with Chinese mysticism had been released by the major Hollywood studios in the twenty years prior to BTiLC? The answer is not many.

And yet 1986 saw the arrival of not only BTiLC but also The Golden Child (which coincidently also starred James Hong and Victor Wong). Fortunately, both films are tonally very different and the gap between the release dates of each meant that they did not influence each other in terms of box office return.

BTiLC managed to do terribly on that front all on its own! Despite the coincidental release, however, it was still a brave move to focus a major Hollywood movie on Eastern Culture as heavily as BTiLC did, and it is a move that should have been applauded.
