9 Reasons Why Justice League Is Now Officially The Lowest-Grossing DCEU Film

For one reason or another, DC and Snyder decided to cram together as many classic storylines from the characters' comic history as possible in creating the story for Batman v. Superman. The result was a film that took elements from classic runs such as The Dark Knight Returns and The Death of Superman but didn't really do justice to either one.

But when the film that is supposed to lead up to Justice League and does so by killing off Superman, a core member of the League in practically every iteration, there's a bit of a problem. The powers that be (the blame is not all on Snyder here, DC had been dying to bring Death of Superman to the big-screen for decades) were simply too excited about the prospects of what stories they could adapt, they didn't stop to consider whether or not they should.

So in Superman's second film, he fights Doomsday and dies. Batman is introduced to us as an aged murderer who has little remorse left for humanity. Even Wonder Woman gets to join in on the action, which is all fine, but it resulted in Justice League having to seriously tone things down.

Rather than ramping up to a huge, iconic storyline in Justice League, DC blew about three movies worth of material on BvS and then just told the most basic and boring story imaginable for their supposed opus.
