9 Reasons Why Scream 3 Is Not QUITE As Bad As You Remember It

6. We Spoiled It For Ourselves

There is an old saying, "You have no one to blame bar yourselves", and in the case of the identity of Scream 3's killer, that has never been more true. When Kevin Williamson originally pitched Scream, it was a full script and the outline for two sequels, contrary to what the finished product may have you believe it was always a trilogy.

Over the years, fans have spotted numerous clues and inconsistencies in the original movie that led to the fabled "Third killer" theory. The idea that Billy Loomis and Stu Macher had acted in conjunction with another individual. This unseen person had fanned the flames of Billy's hatred and manipulated his mental Instabilities, in short turning a troubled boy into a living weapon. Scream 3 reveals Roman Bridger, Sidney Prescott's long-lost half-brother, abandoned by their mother, as not only that movies killer but the mastermind behind the entire franchise.

Only, Roman was never supposed to be the third killer.

The original script for Scream 3 was stolen and released onto the then-burgeoning internet, with fans quickly downloading and discovering the killer's identity. Hence the reason for the 11th-hour rewrites that meant a partially more sensible and satisfying conclusion was off the table in exchange for one audiences would not see coming.
