9 Movie Sequels That Made You Hate Characters You Once Loved

2. Harry & Lloyd - Dumber And Dumber To

There are arguably no two characters in all of cinema quite as stupid as Harry and Lloyd, yet Dumb And Dumber - the Farrelly Brother's 90's comedy classic - still made them an endearing pair: low on I.Q., but immeasurably high on affability. Despite their incessantly misguided antics and more slapstick than you could shake a Looney Tunes cartoon at, you somehow rooted for these idiots.

Sadly, Dumber And Dumber To, the belated 2014 sequel, changed the fundamental nature of its titular characters: it made them into horrible people.

The Harry and Lloyd of the first flick weren't the best guys in the world, but they meant well. Their mistakes came down to a childlike naivety and not spiteful agenda. The follow-up, however, painted these two as invariably nasty, rude and mean-spirited - totally out for themselves. All the warmth disappeared.

That's not all: the first time around, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels felt surprisingly natural in these admittedly far-fetched roles, but in Dumber And Dumber To their performances reek of desperation. By the end of the movie, it's difficult to feel the same about these two - difficult to love them in spite of their flaws.

And so most fans were condemned to sit in the theatre, wondering why the hell they ever thought Carrey and his bowl haircut were funny in the first place.
