9 Sleaziest Italian Exploitation Movies

2. Porno Holocaust (1981)

porno_holocaust_lc_01 I recently reviewed Joe D'Amato's mind boggling hard core porn/zombie movie hybrid - Erotic Nights of the Living Dead and for those of you who read that review or own a copy of the film, you will be delighted to hear that D'Amato produced another movie just like it, but slightly sleazier. Porno Holocaust was filmed around the same time as Erotic Nights. A group of scientists are taken to an island where nuclear weapons activity has left deformed and mutated animals. Professor Keller has sex with his wife and goes for a swim, only to find himself attacked by a monster who then goes on to kill his wife. The monster goes on to attack more of the scientists and it kidnaps a woman called Annie, and brings her to his lair where she finds a journal. The monster was once a man who lived on the island when the nuclear tests were going on. He was mutated and his family killed. The creature's name is Antoine. He kills more members of the group until there is only Captain Hardy left to rescue Annie and flee the island. They manage to kill Antoine and they get into a boat to sail away from the creepy island. And what do you know - in true D'Amato fashion, the survivors have sex on the boat to celebrate! The hardcore sex in the film is quite boring on its own and the 'horror' element of the film is pretty feeble. Leave it up to D'Amato to mix the two together. They form an uneasy pair in the film with neither aspect really satisfying either sex perverts or gorehounds respectively - just like its sister film Erotic Nights of the Living Dead. However it is a curio and you can't help but admire D'Amato's chutzpah in making the film. He was an accomplished horror director as well as a porno movie heavyweight. I think that with the title Porno Holocaust he is mocking Ruggero Deodato's Cannibal Holocaust - instead of cannibals, we have sex - lots of it - in an early 1980s fashion which involves oodles of body hair. Despite its weaknesses, I am glad that I sat through this film. Although I missed the amazing champagne bottle opening via vaginal muscles that is in Erotic Nights of the Living Dead.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
