9 Terrifying Movie Rednecks You Never Want To Meet In The Woods

5. Early Grace - Kalifornia (1993)

Brian (David Duchovny) is a sophisticated writer who wants to do some research about serial killers. However both he and his partner Carrie (Michelle Forbes) do not have the money to do a cross country tour by themselves, so they advertise for travelling companions and end up with Early Grace (Brad Pitt) and his girlfriend Adele (Juliette Lewis). They could quite possibly be the the ultimate scary redneck couple to ever appear on a cinema screen. Brad Pitt does a good job with the role of white trash redneck Early, who goes from being an uncouth loud mouth to being a homicidal maniac. Juliette Lewis is even better in her role as Adele. She portrays an innocence and childishness which makes her accept Early's personality and his deeds, even if they are harmful to her. David Duchovny's character Brian, is fascinated by Early's mindset, his behaviour, his fugitive status and eventually he gets his wish to be up close to a murderer and he sees that it is not the glamorous pursuit he had imagined. Time for reality Brian. The interactions between the characters of the film are what brings it vividly to life and the movie succeeds in exploring the complex dynamics between all four stars. Adele is a figure of sympathy but Early is a psycho redneck.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
