9 Things We Want To See In Doctor Strange 2
2. Mordo As The Villain
Speaking about the MCU's villain problem just sounds like a broken record at this point but it doesn't mean it's not still a problem. Kaecilius' noble intentions were interesting and Mads Mikkelsen brought a lot to the role, but the character was under-written and ultimately not very memorable. The good news for the sequel is they have a set-up a villain with a lot of potential.
In the comics, Mordo is in fact Strange's greatest enemy, yet the MCU wisely started him as an ally. We saw Mordo as a man with a dark past who became humble and benevolent sorcerer, and also one with rigid principles. Those principles were tested in the first film and by the end Mordo was set on a darker path, seeking to trim down the world's sorcerer population.
While there are many worthy villains for the sequel (Nightmare is a popular choice), focusing on Mordo's turn to the dark side would offer the chance to see another great villain in the MCU. We've met him, we know his motivation and we even understand his new purpose. That already clears up a lot of the issues that have prevented previous Marvel villains from being great. It also doesn't hurt that Chiwetel Ejiofor is an amazing actor.
