9 Things You Need To Know About Ben Affleck’s Batman

1. Affleck Was The First Choice

To all the fans who weren't a fan of Affleck when he was first announced, this is something to muse on - he was the first choice. "He was the first guy we went to. That's who we wanted" - so said Charles Roven, producer on Batman V Superman, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year. "We wanted a guy who was tougher, rugged, who had signs of life, who had lived a hard life, and we wanted the guy to have chops". It wasn't just Roven who thought Affleck was right for the part - Christopher Nolan, who is executive producer on Batman V Superman, was also involved in choosing the film's lead. And it wasn't Affleck's character or already strong relationship with WB (he won the studio a Best Picture Oscar for Argo in 2013) alone that got him the part; his physicality actually got him the rest of the way there. "We also wanted a guy with big stature", said Roven. "Ben is 6' 4". Henry is 6'1". We wanted Batman to tower over Superman." On a side not, maybe Batman will be more of a physical match for Superman than first assumed. What pieces of new news have we missed about Ben Affleck's Batman? Let us know in the comments below.
