9 Times Method Actors Actually Forgot Who They Really Were

1. Al Pacino Thought He Was Actually Blind On Scent Of A Woman

Proving you're never too old to let yourself be so consumed by a character that you forget what's actually going on, it's Al Pacino again, this time for a film he made almost two decades after Serpico confused him into thinking he was a member of law and order.

To play the role of a blind former army colonel in Martin Brest's Scent Of A Woman, Pacino sought help from a school for the blind. Then, when filming began, Pacino made himself appear blind by not allowing his eyes to focus on anything, and stayed in character both on and off the set, guiding himself with a cane and never allowing himself to look directly at anyone. Such was his commitment, Pacino was adamant that he couldn't actually see during the shoot, and later sent co-star Chris O'Donnell a note that read, "Although I couldn't see you, I know you were great".

It won Pacino his first and to date only Oscar, which he graciously bound onto the Academy stage and accepted, having miraculously regained his vision.

Do you know of any other method actors who inadvertently let the character take over? Let us know in the comments below.
