According to Shia LaBeouf, the former Transformers star first embraced method acting working alongside Tom Hardy on Lawless in 2012 and hasn't looked back since. He dropped acid for Charlie Countryman and filmed himself having sex for Nymphomaniac, but LaBeouf's method reached its peak with David Ayer's Fury, for which he alienated anyone repelled by the scent of a man who'd refused to wash for two months.

Aside from refraining from showering during the Fury shoot, LaBeouf also had a dentist pull out one of his front teeth, permanently scarred his own face with a knife and refused to leave the tank turret his character 'Bible' Swan resided in for stunt shots. It was the ultimate expression of the method for LaBeouf, with one unexpected drawback being he forgot what his religion was. The role invaded LaBeouf's mind so deeply that he "found God", much like the character of Bible had, during filming.

LaBeouf, a Jewish man who considered himself a "chosen one" prior to the filming of Fury, in his own words "became a Christian man", proof that God really can find you at any time, especially when you're playing a devout Christian and start to believe you are one.
