5. Meet The Feebles (1989)

The muppets were a wholesome, fun group of puppets. The puppets in Meet the Feebles are some of the most depraved, disgusting losers ever committed to celluloid. Directed by Peter Jackson back when he was a good maker of films in 1980s New Zealand, Meet the Feebles couldn't be anything other than bad taste. Jackson positively wallows in bad taste in this movie. It is even more bad taste than his debut movie - Bad Taste. The film follows the fortunes of a group of puppets as they prepare to air the Meet the Feebles Variety Hour. Heidi the Hippo is having a terrible time of it. Her lover Bletch the Walrus is cheating on her with Samantha - a tramp of a cat. Larry the rabbit is an inveterate pervert who may have contracted AIDS. There is a drug addicted knife throwing frog. A fly tabloid journalist who feasts on poop. The only nice characters are Roger the Porcupine who is trying to win the love of Lucille the poodle but he may be foiled by a horrid rat who is running a porno movie business in the basement. There are some spectacularly icky moments in Meet the Feebles which turn your stomach just a little. However, if you enjoy bad taste screen antics and anything that offends, this film will push the right buttons. What could be better than watching a puppet fox sing a song called Sodomy? Basil Brush this aint. I nearly died laughing when I watched it for the first time. Puerile and gross the film may be, but it is also highly amusing and well worth sitting through the litany of bad taste moments for the comedy value.
