9 Upcoming Movie Passion Projects You Aren't Ready For

2. Todd McFarlane's Spawn

For a lot of people, the original Spawn movie is one of the worst ever comic book movies (despite their being SOME redemptive qualities to it and it being well ahead of the curve in some respects), so it may be surprising to see the hellish anti-hero returning to the big screen.

The project has been in various stages of development since way back in 2007, when Todd McFarlane first announced a reboot and Jamie Foxx has been semi-attached since around 2013, when he revealed he was "aggressively pursuing" the film. Clearly, it's a passion project for both the star who was confirmed in 2018 along with Jeremy Renner and his director.

Spawn is definitely an intriguing prospect for the big screen and the story has a lot in there to make it appeal - particularly as a sort of true MCU antidote - and the rise of Deadpool makes this the perfect time for McFarlane's enthusiasm to turn into an actual movie.
