9 Ways To Break Out Of A Time Loop (According To The Movies)

2. Don't Be A Nazi (The Twilight Zone)

Ok, so this is TV. But still, bear with me, as the message is important. There are ways of going about life in this world that just won't get you any respect in the long run. Choosing Nazism, for one, is a big no-no. In the Judgment Night episode of The Twilight Zone, for example, even reason doesn't respect evil Nazi and U-Boat Kapitan Carl Lanser (Nehemiah Persoff), and as such drops a big fat time loop on him for his right-wing misdeeds. His crime: sinking an Allied passenger ship full of innocents and old people and leaving their fate in the hands of Neptune. His punishment: having to relive the moment himself forever, as an amnesiac passenger awaking on the ship minutes before his own U-Boat torpedoes it. The advice here is offered by The Twilight Zone as a preventative measure; the actual episode gives no clue as to how Carl Lanser will ever break out of his time loop. Lanser's a cursed man, and doomed to live the night for eternity as a victim of his own actions. It's a profoundly haunting moment in Twilight Zone history, one that asks: surely no man should suffer such a fate? But then, he is a Nazi after all, and Raiders of the Lost Ark's Toht arguably got it much worse.
