9 Wholly Inappropriate 80’s Movies That Taught Me All My Life Values

9. An American Werewolf In London

American WerewolfI'll start off with something a bit light on the rhetoric. This movie (which was R Rated at the time) is about 2 American backpackers who are attacked on the moors in England by a werewolf, in which one is killed and the other is mauled before the townspeople managed to save him. After some initial dreams that resembles something Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino might come up with, he starts getting unearthly visitors from the grave in the form of his best friend and his victims, whom all try to convince him to commit suicide in order not only to save others but to lift the curse that prevents them from moving on and keeps them stuck on Earth. It all culminates in a bloodbath that takes place outside of a porno theatre where it ends with our now fully formed wolf being shot down by London's finest. Not exactly the stuff for kiddies.
Lesson Learnt: STAY ON THE ROAD! When you live in the Australian bush there are so many things that can harm or even kill you in a heartbeat. But the thing is about animals, they are usually much more scared than you are of them and will pretty much avoid humans at all cost, and will only attack if it finds you a threat to its home or its young. They tend not to go near any significant human population or where they dwell. And after seeing this film I was so scared to get attacked by anything that I always stayed on the road unless it was absolutely necessary to leave it, and this stayed with me long after my exploits in the bush were done. If I am somewhere that I don't know, I stick to the main road, never go down any dark alleys or the like and try to stay in well lit areas unless again, it is absolutely necessary. And I am 100% sure that this has kept me out of harms way throughout my years, as things tend to happen to people in the places that I never frequent. Abductions, muggings, rapes, even murders - all avoided because I was allowed to watch the definitive Werewolf movie of all time as a child. Alternate Lesson: BE WARY IN SUBWAY STATIONS! Always kept on high alert when I travelled on these underground havens for anyone who is out to destroy an innocence of a child. Looked around every corner, kept my eyes peeled for crazies (and werewolves) at all times and if I was alone, I would hurry and stick to well lit areas. Not too long ago I saw a child dart through the corridors of such a place to the detriment of his mother, who lost sight of her child on a number of occasions as the kid ran around each bending curve, totally oblivious to who or what might be stalking in the shadows. That kid needs to watch this movie.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
