http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEiflMNQJ1o Connery deserves some credit for at least trying to put on an accent in a few of his roles. However, when it comes to Time Bandits, in which Connery plays mythic Greek hero King Agamemnon, Connery made absolutely no effort to try sounding even remotely Greek. However, this might be the exact performance that director Terry Gilliam wanted. In Gilliam and Michael Palin's script, Agamemnon is introduced with the joke, "The warrior took off his helmet, revealing someone that looks exactly like Sean Connery, or an actor of equal but cheaper stature." As it turns out, Connery was actually interested in the role and played the part in the film. Of course, notice that Gilliam only wrote that the actor should look like Connery after all, everyone knew what the voice that came with that face sounded like already. Since Time Bandits is a comedy filled with absurd humor, the fact that Connery doesn't look or sound Greek isn't much of an issue. Nonetheless, since his character is played relatively straight that is, he isn't one of the goofier characters it still is an odd fit.
