9. The Price of Glory
This is it. Young Ralphie's treasure in resplendent, vintage advertising glory. "A Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time". Right from the off, he knew his parents would never sign off on his owning one, especially his mother. Apparently, the advertisers knew that many other kid's parents would feel the same way, as it extolls this very air rifle as the one to buy with some of that Christmas money you received from relatives who meant well, but didn't really know your tastes. However, the funniest part about the whole matter is that when the film came out, these guns didn't exist....at least not in the version Ralphie himself dreamed of. According to Wikipedia, the Compass and Sundial (" thing which tells time") were on the Daisy "Buck Jones" model rifle, but not the Red Ryder. Eventually, if memory serves correctly, the Red Ryder was actually made with Ralphie's specifications.
