A Star Is Born Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs

3. Sam Elliott's Excellent Supporting Performance

Jackson and Bobby Maine A Star Is Born
Warner Bros.

Though Gaga and Cooper are basically guaranteed Oscar nominations at this point, hopefully the Academy won't forget the wonderful supporting work from the brilliant Sam Elliott.

Elliott plays Bobby Maine, Jackson's older brother and manager, and while he doesn't have a huge part in the movie, he makes every second of his screen time count. He has several emotionally charged encounters opposite Cooper throughout the film, and they're among the finest work the actor's ever done in his storied career.

It'd be great to see him recognised with a Best Supporting Actor nomination, especially as the 74-year-old acting legend has somehow never been nominated before.
