Aaron Sorkin will once again ask the U.S. government if it can "handle the truth!"

We first spoke of THE CHALLENGE back in August, a book pickup by George Clooney based on Jonathan Mahler's legal thriller that told the true life tale of the long campaign by U.S. Navy lawyer Charles Swift and Georgetown law professor Neal Katyal to ensure a fair trial for the bodyguard and driver of Osama Bin Laden. It's another interesting project for the politically conscious Clooney, who also eyed the project to lead and direct as well as produce. Now comes word from Variety that he has gone right to the top in search of a screenwriter for the project. He has hired Aaron Sorkin, the man who made his film debut with the screenplay for the courtroom drama A FEW GOOD MEN, one of the best movies that genre has ever produced. Since then Sorkin has wrote CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR and has wrote THE TRIAL OF THE CHICAGO 7 for Steven Spielberg. Surely there was only ever one man to write this movie and that was he. It's interesting that the trades claim the movie won't debate the innoncence of the accused but will instead chronicle the amazing efforts of the U.S. team in ensuring a fair trial Salim Hamdan who went as far as to sue the president because they felt the U.S. government had broken the law and violated the Constitution. Which may make for a scene like this once again...
