Adrien Brody: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked

2. Tiberius - Dragon Blade (2015)

It can't be denied that Adrien Brody is having the time of his life in this Chinese historical epic; he's clearly relishing the free holiday and the opportunity to have Nic Cage-levels of goofy hair and strut around in armour, swinging a sword about. It's just a shame that his over-excitement for the role translated into the cinematic equivalent of a ham sandwich. Whilst the film's no-expenses-spared set design and epic nature make Dragon Blade a reasonably-watchable experience, Brody just feels out of place as Roman general Tiberius, who stumbles across the Silk Road in China and decides he wants a peace. Although he doesn't stick out more than John Cusack, with his American accent and his Roman centurion armour, but still. It stands to reason that any actor in the role would have faced a critical bashing, but Brody is an Academy Award-winner, dammit. We should expect better of him, and he should be aiming higher.
