1. The Opening of Misty Beethoven (1975)
Porn goes Pygmalion. A sexologist (Dr Seymour Love, played by porn's ultimate bad boy Jamie Gillis) takes a lowly prostitute and vows to turn her into some sort of erotic Goddess. He primes Misty to seduce a gay man, but Misty has fallen for Dr Love. How will this sexual farrago resolve itself? Widely considered to be the greatest hardcore porn movie ever made, The Opening of Misty Beethoven mixes candid sex scenes with charm and laughter. The acting is way above average for a porn movie and the lead actress - the rarely seen Constance Money - is excellent in her transformation from lowly street hooker, giving handjobs in a rundown Porno theatres to assuming the role of Queen of High Class Sex. You can also enjoy all of the 1970s fashion and hair dos (being the 70s, this is bush-o-rama heaven). Jamie Gillis excels in his role as the Pygmalion-like Seymour Love and per usual for a Radley Metzger film, the production values and cinematography are excellent, lifting the film far above the average porno. The epitome of Porno Chic and a film that will please a lot more people than you think it would... despite the vigorous and plentiful hardcore sex sequences.
