Roberto Benigni and Nicoletta Braschi are a husband/wife team who have done numerous films together, with Roberto commonly taking on duty as an actor, director, and writer, while Nicoletta is often cast opposite him.
The Movie(s): To name a few of the movies they've done together... "You Upset Me", "Down By Law", "Johnny Stecchino", "The Monster", "Life Is Beautiful", "Pinocchio", and "The Tiger and the Snow".
Did It Work?: While having extraordinary success in their native Italy (where Roberto has been called "Italy's national treasure"), only one of their films have had mainstream success amongst English audiences, the 1997 masterpiece Life Is Beautiful. It was nominated for an impressive seven Academy Awards, winning three, one of which was Best Actor for Roberto Benigni. Their next movie together, Pinocchio, did not fare so well for English audiences (culminating in it being the first non-English film to be nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Picture), but that's entirely due to its terrible English dubbing. In fact, in Europe it was nominated for six David di Donatello Awards, winning two.
