2. Michael Fassbender
The ubiquitous German-born, Irish national Fassbender would appear the most obvious choice. After receiving huge critical acclaim for his performance as Bobby Sands in Steve McQueens Hunger in 2008 Fassbenders career has been progressively prolific without letting his performances suffer. His recent choices, namely as Magneto in X-Men: First Class and perhaps his biggest role yet as David in Ridley Scotts Prometheus signal a significant upshift in the size of the projects he is taking on, yet in each of these films hes part of an ensemble. Should he be given to opportunity to sink his teeth into the role of Batman it would mark the first time he would headline a big budget blockbuster and surely cement a place on the A-list, amongst the cream of the acting crop. Already showing great versatility in what is really still quite a young career, there is no doubt the 35-year-old Fassbender has the ability to take on the role. Hed likely bring something different to Bale too. As his performances in films such as Shame have shown, Fassbender has a great intensity to him yet in a far more stoic, less shouty way than Christian Bale. Fassbenders Bruce Wayne would feel more mature than Bales, likely alleviating the slightly sulky tendency Bales Wayne occasionally conveys. If anyone could achieve a level of sympathy towards a broody billionaire playboy then its him. With demand for Fassbender on the rise, if Warner Bros. did want to offer Fassbender the chance to be Gothams most famous guardian theyd best get in quick because next time a James Bond casting call goes out, hell likely be at the top of that list too. And having two such high-profile secret identities is too just too much for any man.
