Steve Kloves, writer of the last seven Harry Potter movies, has been brought on to re-draft the screenplay. As we said earlier in the week, in a post Speed Racer world, WB now have major doubts about the commercial prospects of Akira and bringing in the writer of their humongous Potter franchise is clearly a movie brought about to help 'jazz' up the script for the Western audience. The Hughes Brothers (From Hell, Book of Eli) are still attached to direct Akira, which has had numerous drafts already by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and Gary Whitta, and more recently, by Albert Torres - and from the outside looking in, especially with everything that has gone on this week, looks like a very troubled production.
