Akira Kurosawa: Every Movie Ranked Worst To Best
22. Scandal (1950)
In his own words, Kurosawa made Scandal as an assessment of how tabloid journalism frequently fails to protect people's privacy.
Ahead of its time and still horribly relevant, the film stars Toshiro Mifune as a famous artist whose life is derailed when a magazine runs a story accusing him of having an affair with a famous singer (Shirley Yamaguchi).
Both a searing anti-media satire and a blaring courtroom drama, Scandal has some issues blending together its two different halves, but thanks to Mifune's dejected performance and Kurosawa's humanism, it eventually overcomes its flaws.
