The Da Vinci Code screenwriter
Akiva Goldsman is in final talks to adapt the
Dan Brown novel
Angels and Demons to the big screen. According to
Hollywood Deadline Daily, he will become the highest paid scriptwriter in Hollywood, with a salary of around $4 million to pen the script. Although I quite liked The Da Vinci Code, I thought Goldsman did a real "cut and paste" job with his screenplay, basically just going through the motions and not putting any heart or soul into it. I think that's why the movie (and
Tom Hanks' performance in particular) recieved such mixed reviews because the story, pacing and dialogue were so weak. We already know that
Ron Howard has already signed on to direct the flick, with Tom Hanks reprising his role as the symboligist Robert Langdon, with a 2008 release date planned. Yes The Da Vinci Code was successful, it was always going to be with the absolute mass of fans the book gathered. Angels and Demons.... not so. Although I have read it, most people I know that have read The Da Vinci Code haven't touched another Dan Brown novel, so this film won't be able to rely on it's title alone. They will have to step things up for this sequel, and hiring the same screenwriter seems a step backwards for me. source -
